VERN CHASE, DVM

Practice Owner

Vern was born in "the country" but grew up mostly in the eastern part of Northumberland county on a dairy farm.  He graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1975 and in 1976, along with his wife Pat, purchased Pine Ridge Veterinary clinic and settled in the area.  In the early years he practiced primarily on farm animals but in the last 20 years he restricted practice to domestic pets only.  Vern and Pat have three children, Andrea, Vanessa and Jordan.  Outside of practice Vern is involved in volunteer work with the Northumberland United Way and his church and enjoys outdoor activities such as dragon boating, running, hiking, snow shoeing as well as working out regularly at the Y.  Vern and Pat have lived within the town of Cobourg for the last 33 years but do enjoy travelling to other parts of Canada and around the world.

PATRICIA STAPLEY CHASE, DVM

Practice Owner

Pat received her Bachelor of Science in 1973 and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1977 from the University of Guelph.  In 1998 she was certified with the International Acupuncture Society (IVAS) and has a special interest in complimentary therapies including soft tissue laser, magnetic, and herbal.  She has her PhD in Natural Health (human) as well has certification in personal training for people with Older Adult Specialty.  She consults on preventive health issues with a focus on detoxification.  (further details are available at: www.venturetowellness.ca).

Having worked in Cobourg over 41 years, she has had the opportunity to serve on a number of community as well as professional committees.

With three grown children living away from home, Vernon and Pat share their home with Kippy an eight year old Papillon. For recreation, she enjoys weight training, cycling, and walking Kippy on the beach.

KAREN MCKENZIE, DVM

Practice Owner

Dr. McKenzie graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph in 2005.  As a child her parents encouraged her love of all things living, and allowed her to own many pets.  Karen began working at Pine Ridge Veterinary Clinic in 2009, and liked the area so well she moved here in 2010.  Karen currently lives on a few acres with her husband Clarke, daughter Amelia, son Oscar, their dog Dizzy, 2 cats Maggot and Willie, and a cockatiel named Munkey.   Other interests include gardening, outdoor travel, canoing, and photography.

GUYLAINE PAQUIN, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

After 4 years of study in Animal Science at the University of Guelph, Guylaine pursued her D.V.M. degree and started her vet career at Pine Ridge upon her 1997 graduation. She practices small animal medicine part time while managing/owning a racing Quarter horse farm in Baltimore with her husband Laurent and her son Alexi. She particularly enjoys the breeding aspect of the operation while indulging in barrel racing during the summer months. Family time is spent watching their son play rep sports and camping with their 2 German Pointers.

TERESA MOHER,

Veterinary Technician

Teresa has been with Pine Ridge for 35 years!  She is still happily married to her handsome husband Allan.  Along with their three beautiful children, they share their home with many feline friends.  Teresa enjoys many outdoor activities (but hates cooking!)

KYLIE SELVIG

Registered Veterinary Technician

Kylie graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College in 2010.  Kylie grew up on a farm with many animals and knew from a young age that she wanted to work with animals.  After graduation Kylie travelled to Australia to help treat sick and injured wild koalas at Steve Irwin's Wildlife Hospital.  Kylie and her husband Jason keep busy with their beautiful daughter Sadie Grace, their sweet Bernese Mountain dog Ranger and their little Havanese Miles.  Kylie also enjoys playing hockey and is a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan.

CHRISTINA BUTTARS

Registered Veterinary Technician

Chris joined the Pine Ridge team officially this year, although she has been a student assistant for a number of years.  She graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College in June 2015.  She grew up and currently lives in Gores Landing.  Chris has always had and cared for animals (including the many barn cats that share the family farm!) and is very happy to be following her lifelong passion.

JACKIE ROSE

Registered Veterinary Technician

Jackie graduated in 2004 from the Veterinary Technology program at St. Lawrence College. Living in Camborne now, she grew up in Gore’s Landing where her parents still reside along with her horse, Bubba, who was born on the family farm. Jackie and her husband Kevin stay busy outside of work with their two energetic children, Ava and Declan. Their family shares their home with Darla, a loveable Cairn Terrier and Gryphon their very chatty kitty. Although she only joined our team in 2014, Jackie was a Coop student in high school and is happy to be back!

SUE THROOP

Reception

Sue has been part of the team since 1983.  She stays healthy and active by cycling, walking and running whenever and wherever she can.  Her most recent adventure, in 2013, found her on her bike riding around Lake Ontario spreading the word about the importance of trees!  When she's not at work, running or riding the roads, Sue hangs out with family and friends and of course their dogs, Duke and Oliver.  Congratulations Sue for over 35 years at Pine Ridge Veterinary Clinic.

WENDY HAKE

Office Manager

Wendy started at the clinic in 2004 as part of our reception staff and is now the office manager.  Unable to have pets at home due to allergies in the family she gets her critter fix at work.  When not at work she enjoys spending time with her husband Derek and their two sons, Quinton and Jackson.  You can often find them playing in the garden of their little Cobourg home.

LISA COWAN

Reception

Lisa grew up in Port Hope and has returned to the area after living on Canada's West Coast for 15 years. She loves movies, music & theatre.  In her spare time she enjoys working with the Northumberland Players both onstage and behind the scenes.  She especially enjoys spending time with her husband Mark, their cat Loretta and their German Shepherd Koa.

LORI BEATTY

Cat Groomer

Lori started working at Pine Ridge in 1998 and is now our official cat groomer!  She lives just north of Cobourg with her husband Phil and their two sons Andrew and Kory.  They have a German Shepherd Iggy, and three cats, Jack, Larry and Baron.
